Here in the UK, we’re all too familiar with whom the top smartphone producers are; the likes of Apple, Samsung, HTC and Nokia dominate the market. But did you know that there are many more varieties out there that extend far beyond the core 4 that we are so used to?

Asia in particular has an extremely high concentration of telecommunication brands that can compete with most western developers at almost every level; it has only been their implementation overseas that has meant that, in the UK at least, they are generally unheard of.

That said, the mobile phone market in Britain is always changing. 2 years ago Blackberry was kicking up a storm with its popularity with younger users and now its devices are almost non-existent. With this in mind we, as consumers, can expect to see even more changes to the industry over the coming years with the potential introduction of new gadgets from some of the brands listed below.

ZTE Grand S

By the end of 2013 the Chinese communications giant ZTE had released its Grand S model throughout China, India and the US.

Since its release the ZTE Grand S has been quietly ascending the ranks of the American smartphone market. This stunning device has an astonishing 5-inch high definition screen, built for optimum display, a sleek and ergonomic design and an extremely powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor chip that runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). The phone also comes with a remarkable 13 megapixel camera that lets you capture crystal clear images in action.

The Grand S’ design has been held in extremely high regard over the past year; winning both the IF International and Japan’s Good Design awards in 2013.

Lenovo Vibe X

Lenovo is not a completely unknown manufacturer in the UK, though the products we are more familiar with over here are mainly laptops and tablets.

An up and comer in Lenovo’s premium designer range is its Vibe X model, which is still yet to be released in most territories. The Vibe X boasts a 5-inch 20/20 vision display and flawless 15 megapixel dual camera for high resolution imagery. The device runs using a quad-core 1.5 gigahertz processing unit on the Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system.

Xiaomi Mi3

Xiamoi is probably China’s most successful smartphone manufacturer, outselling Apple at almost every turn in 2013 alone. This is probably because Xiaomi predominantly sell its products online, meaning they can position their handsets at around half the price set by leading global brands.

Its flagship device is the Mi3, featuring an incredible 5-inch 1080p screen. On top of an amazing display output the Mi3 also operates at a whopping 2.3 gigahertz using a Snapdragon 800 processor on Android 4.2, and its camera flaunts an impressive 13 megapixels.

Cool Pad Magview 4

The Cool Pad is another newcomer to the Chinese mobile market that is also outselling Apple rapidly.

Cool Pad’s most prestigious product to date is the Magview 4, which also happens to be one of the most expensive handsets available, at roughly $650. Compared to most of the leading designs, the Android 4.2 Magview 4 has an even larger HD screen at 5.9-inches, 1.8GHz Tegra 4 processor and 13 megapixel camera.

Celkon Signature HD

Celkon is one of the leading pioneers of smartphones in India, with an extensive background in providing mobile and wireless technology solutions to the region.

Pegged for a release later this year, the Celkon A119Q Signature HD sports a 5-inch LCD touch screen, with a 12 megapixel rear auto focus camera. Like many others, the A119Q operates on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and uses a sturdy 1.2GHz quad-core chip with 1GB of RAM.

This soon to be released model is expected to be the most revered product in Celkon’s arsenal yet.

Keep a look out for these brands over the next the few years. The mobile phone industry is always on the move and who knows, your Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy might just become a ZTE in the not so distant future.
